End-of-Year Message

End of Year Message from our CEO

Rooted in Dignity, Rising to the Moment

As 2025 draws to a close, we find ourselves reflecting not only on what has been accomplished, but also on the deeper meaning of our mission. The challenges of this year remind us that our work is not simply about programs or grants. It is about standing firmly in the conviction, as our Chief Programs and Grants Officer, Daniel Frascella, reminded us earlier this year, that the dignity of every person is sacred and must be protected.

That belief guided us as we listened more deeply to communities across New York State. Through our grantee and applicant survey and statewide listening tour, voices from faith leaders, nonprofit partners, and community members illuminated both urgent needs and enduring strengths. These conversations reminded us that true progress begins not in boardrooms, but in neighborhoods, congregations, and families—and that our role is to meet New Yorkers where they are with humility and resolve.

This spirit of listening and collaboration was powerfully present at our Mental Health Summit, where leaders from across sectors confronted the intertwined crises of serious mental illness, substance use disorder, and homelessness. In the face of daunting obstacles, what emerged was not despair but determination: a shared commitment to build bridges across healthcare, education, philanthropy, and government so that every New Yorker can access care, compassion, and community.

We also took bold steps to strengthen the healthcare workforce at a moment when burnout and shortages threaten the very fabric of care. Our $50 million Nursing Initiative—supporting 13 safety‑net hospitals and more than 6,500 nurses across New York State—represents not only an investment in professional growth, but also a declaration that those who care for others deserve care themselves. This Nursing Initiative will hopefully ripple outward, touching millions of patients and families as well as ensuring that excellence and compassion remains at the heart of healthcare.

Since our first year of operation in 2019, we have invested more than $1 billion in grants—539 this year alone, totaling $208 million. These investments are not abstract numbers; they are lifelines. They expand access to care, fight childhood hunger, support immigrant healthcare workers, strengthen maternal health, and bring mental health services to older adults in rural communities. They are the embodiment of our mission in action.

Yet, none of this is possible without you—our grantees, partners, and philanthropic allies. You are the hands and hearts that transform resources into impact. You are the ones ensuring that children, families, veterans, immigrants, and elders receive the care and dignity they deserve. In a time when uncertainty can breed isolation, your collaboration proves that solidarity is stronger than disruption.

As we look ahead, we draw inspiration from the legacy of Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini. Her life was a testament to compassion, service, and an unwavering respect for human dignity. Today, we are called to do the same.

So, let us move forward together—with courage to confront the challenges of our time, with creativity to build solutions across sectors, and with compassion to ensure that no one is left behind. The work ahead is immense, but so is our collective power.

With profound gratitude for your partnership and with hope rooted in Cabrini’s vision, we wish you peace this holiday season and strength for the year to come. May 2026 be a year where our shared missions shine even brighter and where, together, we transform uncertainty into opportunity for healing and justice.

Warm regards,

Msgr. Greg Mustaciuolo
